At first, I thought this book would be about child abuse, neglect, or a runaway tragedy. Monday’s life broke my heart. Not just because of her home situation, but also because of how decent Claudia’s life was in contrast. Because of how great a student Monday was. Because of how resilient she seemed. That with a slightly different circumstance she would thrive. But most of all, it hurts because situations like hers are way too real.

In The Waiting Room, a man named Harold finds himself in darkness, wandering endlessly until he arrives at a strange waiting room. There, he joins others who have no idea why they’re there, only that a train is coming. One that’s either going up or down, and that they’ve already “paid for.”

This isn’t really a full review, but more of a heads-up. It’s been a while since I read I'm a Therapist, and My Patient is Going to Be the Next School Shooter by Dr. Harper, but I still think about it.

UB MFA Program: 8.5/10. Would I do it again? No—I’m exhausted. But should you? Absolutely.
